PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE COOPERATIVES IN DAVAO TO ADMIT YOUTH AGED 15-17 YEARS OLD AS THEIR REGULAR MEMBERS

WHEREAS, it is the thrusts of the City Government of Davao to promote the development of its youth by way of mobilizing their abilities, talents and skills and directing their creativity, inventive genius and wellspring of enthusiasm;

WHEREAS, the Cooperative Code of the Philippines recognizes cooperatives as practical vehicle for promoting self-reliance and harnessing people power towards the attainment of economic development and social justice;

WHEREAS, the admission of youth with ages ranging from 15 to 17 years as regular members of cooperatives as enunciated in Memorandum Circular No. 99-04 of the Cooperative Development Authority would help in promoting youth involvement in nation-building;

WHEREAS, THE Cooperative Development Authority, the cooperatives in Davao, and all secondary public schools in Davao City will declare (month) 2007 as "Cooperative Membership month";

WHEREAS during this month - each school will have activities that inform students on cooperatives. Specifically:

• What coooperatives are.
• The principles behind cooperatives.
• Services offered by cooperatives.
• How students can avail of cooperatives.
• A contest on business ideas that can be supported by funds from cooperatives - ala "The Apprentice".

NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved, to encourage cooperatives in Davao to admit youth ages 15-17 years old as their regular members.

LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, to declare (month) as "Cooperative Membership Month".
