PROPOSED RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE PRESIDENT AND THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & COMMUNICATION TO SUSPEND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INCREASE IN THE AIRPORT TERMINAL FEE AT THE DAVAO (BANGOY) INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FROM  FORTY PESOS (P 40.00) TO TWO HUNDRED PESOS (P 200.00)

WHEREAS, on August 7, 2007 the City Council passed a Resolution urging the national government not to increase fees and charges as these are added burden on the people and make public service inaccessible to citizens;

WHEREAS, according to media reports, the Department of Transportation & Communication (DOTC) has issued Department Order No.  2007-25 increasing the passenger terminal fee at the Davao (Bangoy) International Airport from Forty Pesos (P 40.00) to Two Hundred Pesos (P 200.00) starting today, August 28, 2007;

WHEREAS, this 500 percent increase is unjustifiable; it adds new burden on passengers, and it is a disincentive to travel, which is being promoted by the government;

WHEREAS, there is no prior consultation on the said increase with no less than the City Council of Davao, the elected representatives of the people, not being officially informed of this planned hike.

WHEREFORE, premises considered be it resolved as it is hereby resolved to request the President and the Secretary of the Department of Transportation & Communication to suspend the implementation of the increase in the airport terminal fee at the Davao (Bangoy) International Airport from Forty Pesos (P 40.00) to Two Hundred Pesos (P 200.00).

RESOLVED further that copies of this Resolution be furnished the City Mayor, the Office of the President, DOTC, the Air Transport Office, the Department of Tourism, Davao City Tourism Council,  Konsumo Dabaw, and all other interested for their information and support.
